Importance of regular pet check ups

The Importance of Regular Pet Check-Ups with our Louisville Veterinarian

At Doerr Animal Clinic, our Louisville veterinarian and team is dedicated to providing your pet with the highest standard of veterinary care each time you come in. We’ve been proudly serving the area since 1969 with compassionate and skilled care. We offer a wide range of veterinary services here in our office, though regular wellness exams are one of the most common reasons people bring their pets in.

Why Does Your Pet Needs Regular Check-Ups?

Typically, we recommend check-ups (also known as wellness exams) for pets at least once a year. For older pets or for pets who have had medical problems in the past, we may recommend two exams a year for better monitoring of your pet’s health.

Bringing your pet in for routine wellness exams is one of the easiest yet most effective things you can do to protect your pet’s health and wellness. For starters, a check-up may reveal potential signs of medical problems that would not have had obvious symptoms for a long time to come. By revealing these issues and diagnosing problems sooner rather than later, the chances for successful treatment are much higher.

In addition to helping you stay on top of your pet’s health, annual wellness exams can also give you added peace of mind in knowing your pet is healthy. Not to mention, if your pet needs updated vaccinations or immunizations, we can also take care of those as part of your pet’s check-up appointment.

Even if your pet seems to be perfectly happy and healthy, why not take 30 minutes of your time once a year to have your pet examined by a veterinary professional?

What to Expect From a Louisville Pet Exam

When you bring your pet into our office for a check-up, your pet will receive a comprehensive physical exam that begins with our veterinary team getting to know your pet and make sure he or she is as comfortable as possible. From there, we may ask you some basic questions about your pet’s general behavior, demeanor, and diet before moving onto the physical exam itself.

During the physical exam, we’ll take time to check your pet’s ears for signs of infection, the eyes for signs of ocular diseases and abnormalities, and the mouth for dental problems. We’ll also use a stethoscope to check your pet’s heart rate and lung function in addition to using an ultrasound to check out the vital organs and make sure that there are no signs of problems. Your pet’s skin and coat will also be examined for signs of fleas, ticks, parasites, and skin conditions.
